It has space to go above the ceiling if it's tucked against the window, but it's single pane glass and I have to move it away from the window during the winter. At this point it looks completely ridiculous, it can't support itself, while I can cut it back so it's just below the ceiling, part of me is tempted to just embrace the fresh green baby branches and axe the tall boi completely.

Drop that ceiling tile out and give it more room!

Can you change the pot to one that’s on the floor?

Cut it halfway. That point is a good height for branching, and then you can cut the top half into 3 sections and root them in water for new plants

Get a shorter plant stand? Does use one?

I had one that size. Cut it to about a foot tall. Cut the remainder to sections where you can strip off bottom leaves to propagate. You’ll grow new branches on the potted one.

If it’s a schefflera like mine, I cut the whole thing off when it hits the roof. Allowed new growth at the bottom to take over. Cuttings took a long time to grow proper roots, but once they did they flourished when planted in soil.

I would cut it where it bends and try to prop

I’d cut it half down and try to make it more bushier. Maybe propagate and give clipping to friends or make more plant babies

I cut mine down by two feet about a year ago and now it looks just like it did back then… no branching at all, just a very tall boy reaching for the ceiling

    Take the drop ceiling out.
Reminds me… At the NASA museum in Huntsville they rebuilt Wernher Von Braun’s office… he had, to scale, replicas displayed of all of the rockets. They got bigger over time and when he put the Saturn V in there they had to remove the ceiling tile to fit. They have the same setup at the museum. Pretty funny and interesting detail.

Take it off the stand, put it directly on the floor… Well not directly on the floor- They sell clear plastic drain plates.

You can prune the hell out of Scheffleras!

Do not cut it at soil level you will kill it!

You could definitely top it, cut 12-16″ from the top and it will be just fine. *Or trim it to whatever height you want to keep it at. If you continue to ‘top’ the new growth. It will eventually start bush out if you keep topping it! (trimming the new growth from the top)
