These stared crawling out of the leaf debris once I started watering my garden. Are these cockroaches?! What do I do?! I don't want an infestation and its also grossing me out.

Cockroaches live all over. Most kinds don’t infest your home. Keep the leaf debris away from the house and you will be fine.

It’s a burrowing cockroach. It’s interested in decomposing plant matter and wood. It can make its way indoors but you really shouldn’t fear them. They can barely run and when you find one on its back inside, it can’t even upright itself without help. I like them.

They’re wood cockroaches, that wood planter is a good place for them to live. Learn to love ’em, they were here well before our species.

They’re actually a good thing and they’re not the same as the ones we find inside our houses.

They’re a sign of healthy organic matter decomposing outside.

Attract more frogs and toads to your yard and they will eat them for you. 🙂

There are lots of species of roaches, and only a handful of those come indoors. This isn’t one of them.

put out a nice flat rock and a small stick pile and you might get a lizard to come eat them!
