Reflecting this year’s theme, ‘Live Local, Love Local’, the program celebrates Benalla’s natural beauty, creativity and community generosity.

The event begins with the Charity Open Garden at Birchwood, Molyullah, open Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, 10am to 5pm.

The one-acre garden features over 100 varieties of salvias, along with bearded iris, spring bulbs and perennials.

Visitors can enjoy stalls and displays, including handmade stained-glass suncatchers, mosaic birdbaths, and dried floral pieces from Everlasting Floral Studio.

Proceeds support Cancer Council Victoria, Benalla Health and Northeast Health Wangaratta.

Adding to the weekend’s floral celebrations, Samaria Rose Farm will also open its gates, offering visitors the chance to wander through beautiful rose gardens, purchase products from the farm store, and enjoy light refreshments while taking in the tranquil surrounds.

Spring is the perfect time of year to visit some of Benalla’s picturesque gardens.

Deputy mayor and Benalla Festival Advisory Committee chair Justin King said the Open Gardens program captured the true essence of the festival.

“The generosity of our local garden owners, who open their private spaces for the community to enjoy, is something really special,” Cr King said.

“It’s a chance to connect with others, find inspiration and appreciate the incredible talent and care that goes into creating these gardens.”

The program continues on Sunday, November 9, with Benalla town gardens opening in support of the Tomorrow Today Foundation.

Gardens at 3A and 8 Mitchell St, 136 Arundel St and 24 Benalla St will be open 10am to 3pm, with entry at $5 per garden.

“Whether you’re a keen gardener or simply love to explore, the Open Gardens program is a wonderful way to celebrate the beauty of our region and support local causes,” Cr King said.
