📍 Here’s where you can find them:
🌴 In Hainan, China, farmers use a clever method — bending young papaya trees horizontally to help fruits grow bigger and sweeter.
🌋 In Hawaii, especially on the Big Island, the Sunrise and Rainbow papayas are prized for their golden flesh and honey-like taste.
🇵🇭 In the Philippines, the Solo and Red Lady varieties thrive in tropical heat, producing juicy, fragrant fruits all year round.
🌺 And in Thailand and India, local growers nurture giant papayas that can weigh several kilos each — perfect for smoothies or desserts!

Did you know that in China, farmers have a clever way to make papayas grow bigger and sweeter? They usually bend the young papaya tree horizontally while its trunk is still soft and easy to shape. First, a small cut is made on the trunk. Then, the tree is carefully bent at a 45 to 90° angle and tied securely to a wooden stake. When the tree grows horizontally, most of its nutrients flow directly to the fruits instead of the trunk, making the papayas larger and much sweeter. Not only that, harvesting becomes safer and easier with no need for dangerous climbing. A bent tree is also stronger against strong winds and storms, helping it live longer and produce more fruit over time. Interestingly, there’s also an old folk trick known as the gender change method. Farmers drive a wooden steak into the base of a male papaya tree and apply turmeric powder around the wound. Under this treatment, male flowers may turn into female flowers, enabling the tree to bear.
