The Blossomway Garden Club has been awarded another $1,000 grant from the Endowment Trust Fund of Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. to continue work on a community beautification project on Highway 79 northeast of Paris near the AMVETS Post 45.

Blossomway was awarded $1,000 from the trust fund last year to begin the project. So far, seven large, raised beds have been installed and planted with evergreens, perennials and annuals. A picnic table and a swing have also been added, and a birdhouse tree has been painted on the side of the building. Banners have been hung to promote special holidays such as Memorial Day, Christmas Day, etc.

Plans for the coming year include a wildflower planting on the highway side of the raised beds, ground covers, another arbor, more seating and a whimsical raised bed on the side of the building. The club is looking for a canoe to convert to a raised bed.

The area is open to the public.

“Plants are labeled. The painted tree, banners and flowers make great backdrops for photos. The swing is a great place to sit and relax,” said Lee Owenby of the club.

During the growing season, 2 to 10 garden club members frequent the garden to work on a weekly basis.
