The event invites participants to bring pumpkins for composting, vegetarian compost scraps, used clothing and toys, and nonperishable Thanksgiving foods

The Shalom Institute will host its annual “Pumpkin Smash: A Mitzvah Day Event” on Sunday, Nov. 2, bringing the Malibu community together for an afternoon of service, sustainability, and celebration at Shemesh Farms, located at the Malibu United Methodist Church.

The free event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and invites participants to bring pumpkins for composting, vegetarian compost scraps, gently used clothing and toys, and nonperishable Thanksgiving foods. The collected items will support local charitable efforts while promoting eco-friendly practices.

Service projects will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a chair yoga and sound bath session at 1:30. A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Pe’ah Garden will take place at 2 p.m., with a community sing-along closing out the afternoon at 2:30.

Guests can also visit Shemesh Farms’ tasting table and farm stand, offering pumpkin-themed concessions, handmade products, and gift sets.

Though admission is free, attendees can support the event through optional sponsorships: $18 for “Pumpkin Smasher,” $36 for “Pe’ah Forward,” or $180 for “Event Supporter,” which includes name recognition at the event.

The celebration will be held at 30128 Morning View Drive, Malibu.
