Hoya people – what other genera/types of plants are you drawn to?


Hope this is okay to post! I love epiphytic cacti (especially Rhipsalis), orchids, small bromiliads, ferns but I’m too scared to try them yet and trailing Peperomias 🙂

    I love Rhipsalis too! I have Rhipsalis, Philo Ring of Fire, Micans, Pothos N Joy, Cebu Blue, a mean Caladium & a Peperomia which will die shortly (I didn’t get it, husband was given it!).

    I have several cats, so am careful what I get & have limited space to keep them so they’re safe!

    I also love rhips! I have about half as many as I do Hoyas, but they’re definetly my other main collection. Everything else has kinda random plants that have just hung around for years

    Gesneriads and especially episcia and violets! I probably have more of those than Hoyas, but the Hoyas are still at least 50 strains. Flowering indoor plants make long winters bearable. I also got my first orchids this past weekend to celebrate a grade! 🌺

    Haworthia, euphorbia, echiveria, cactus, broms & orchids. Anything easy care, Hoyas take up most of my gardening time. 😄💚🪴

    Rhipsalis as well! I collect them. It’s a lot easier to manage when there’s less than 40 kinds. My Hoya collection is getting out of control.

    I collect succulents along with hoya- mainly haworthia, euphorbia types, with a special love for euphorbia francoisii hybrids, adromischus and conophytum/lithops. Oh and snake plant hybrids. I love my sans! I also collect rhipsalis and dischidia.

    I like Rhipsalis, I only have one (Paradoxa) but I would get more of them if I had space. I am considering trying dischidia out too. I saw one that I really like.

    Most of my plants are Hoyas or Hoya cousins 🤣

    Other than Hoyas I like aroids (primarily epipremnum, trailing philodendrons, syngonium, dieffenbachia, small monsteras). A couple of oddball succulent types. And then some plants I can ignore like snake plants and ZZ.

    Begonias, anything that looks dead or like a rock, jungle cactus, and caudices.

    Also love Rhipsalis and other epiphytic cacti. I grow whatever grows well in my house so I like all sorts, lots of prayer plants, peperomia, syngoniums, palms, a few ferns, begonias and some classic houseplants like ficuses, spider plants, peace lily, aspidistra. Hoyas were basically the first genus I’ve started collecting in an obsessive way, if I’m honest most of them don’t even grow that well in my house but I just love them.

    There are a lot. This time of year I really enjoy my schlumberga. I also have a Meyer’s lemon, a violet and a few orchids. But mostly hoya – a whole lot of hoya.

    Orchids and carnivorous plants, drosera, Pingicula. I love Sarracenia too but I don’t really have the space to grow them in my basement apartment. I want to try my hand at bonsai some little trees we will see how that goes.

    I love all plants. I overwinter things like geraniums, and my family heirloom begonia, I love love love color in the winter so have a grand selection of “Christmas” cactuses (some are I think T-giving and some are Easter, I don’t care, they are “Christmas” in my mind) in reds, pinks, fuscias, salmon, and cream. I also have calenchoe, which I am trying to force bloom for the first time, I have cyclamen, An oversized Jade, three orchids that bloom regularly, and a variegated creeping fig/ficus. I also have a climbing onion, and a tuberous begonia, and African violets, one of which has been in my family for nearly 100 years (I keep restarting it when it crowns out). I have a button fern as well. The only plant I bought that I realized I’d made a mistake was a Monstera. Gorgeous, but way more than I could take care of, so I gave it to someone who would appreciate it. I’ve had ficus trees and sheffalera in the past and giant dracenias/spike plant. Also mother in law’s tongue (snake plant?). Also peace lilies, and diffenbachia and cactuses/succulents. I’m the person that everyone gives their dying plants to to “save” and I usually can bring them back to life. The office I work for is full of plants I “saved” and grew into showpieces, but have no room to take them home, and that’s fine. Pardon my misspellings, I write their names phonetically and I’m not always right.

    I love Rhipsalis! I have 3. I have a Hoya linearis as well as other Hoyas. I just love those scraggly plants.

    I have a bunch of philodendrons, but they are going to outgrow my home.

    I went through a big anthurium phase, but they didn’t do well after they outgrew my cabinets. I have alocasia, sansiveria, peperomia, ficus, jades, rhipsalis, philodendron. I’ll keep anything that grows well in my house.

    All of them…lol! I love my Hoyas and calatheas, but I also have succulents, pothos, scindapsus, philodendron and even a few alocasia. I love all plants as long as they’re not too hard to keep alive!!! ❤️🪴

    I am most enthusiastic about scents! So most of my plants are actually outdoors. Roses, lavender, lemon balms, mints, many strongly scented herbs, hyacinths, daffodil, rhododendrons etc.

    All of my Hoyas are scented.
    I would like to expand into succulents such as lithops in the future but don’t have the space for a proper setup right now.

    I have some random plants that were gifted or free but besides Hoya, most of my collection is aroids: monstera, philodendron, pothos and aglaonema. I just started collecting Syngonium and Alocasia.

    Besides my 42 hoyas, I have about a dozen each of pothos, peps, sansevieria, cacti and philos, plus a scattering of a few others — 150-ish total. I have limited space and light, and have figured out on these subs which plants won’t work in my house. No big plants.

    Some will be going to friends and family — have some props and dups.

    Love most of plants but whatever thrives with my low humidity is a keeper. I have lots of succulents outdoors, few rhipsalis, cane begonias, thick leaves peperomias some philodendrons. I only have common Hoyas and lots of African Violets.

    Peperomias, marantas, succulents, ferns, scindapsus. I have a bunch of other plants but these are my favorites and I’m trying to not buy random stuff on impulse.
