It's been getting cold here in Chicago the last few weeks, overnight temps in the low to mid 30s and during the day low to mid 50s. I haven't watered in almost a weeks now and grass is still super green and still growing. Wondering shouldn't my lawn start to be going dormant? I did just cut it today as it was getting a little tall.

Keep on keeping….cut it, keep it clean, and when it’s ready it will go to sleep. It also won’t just turn yelllow right away in dormancy…

It’ll still be green, even when snow lands on it. It won’t start going dormant until it’s covered for a while or not getting water at all.

Everybody on here asking for help on how to grow their shitty lawn. This guys comes here and asks why his is so green a lush🤣🤣. I love reddit ❤️

  4. I’m in KC and mine stayed green well into January last year, then went dormant and was quite pressed to the ground. Came back fine around late March

No, not yet. I live in the area, we will still see highs in the upper 50s again soon. Not until consistent highs in the 40s will the lawn start to go dormant, sometimes even lower.

The key is really soil temp. If it stays above 40 the grass will still have some growth as little as it may be.

  8. Same area. Can we put weed and feed down for cool season grass?

Count your blessings, I live in South Carolina and have Centipede grass. My entire neighborhood turns a lifeless shade of brown from November until early March!
