This October, the ladies of Kesh Women’s Institute (WI) received an “informative talk” from Rebecca Gilroy of Drumary Nurseries about pruning shrubs, trees and plants.

“She explained that pruning is essential not only for shaping and maintaining the right size and height but also for promoting overall plant health and encouraging growth, fruiting and flowering,” a Kesh WI spokeswoman said.

“Rebecca also discussed the various tools used for pruning and the importance of keeping them well maintained.

She added: “Rebecca gave practical demonstrations on a selection of plants she had brought along. Members appreciated the opportunity to ask questions, and many took advantage of the chance to purchase plants.”

Pat Hey proposed the vote of thanks.

Following supper, a short business meeting took place where members were informed about upcoming events, including Tamlaght WI’s Visitors’ Night.

Monthly ballot winners were Irene Davis and Sylvia Johnston.

The competition winners for October’s theme, “Tints of Autumn Decorative Decoration,” were: 1st, Pat Hey; 2nd, Pamela Mullins; and 3rd, Audry Reid.
