This week on Good Day Gardening, we caught up with Jeff Turnbull, owner of Darby Creek Nursery, to talk about why fall is one of the best times of the year to plant. As temperatures cool and plants begin to go dormant, they require less watering and can put their energy into developing strong root systems. That helps set them up for healthy growth next spring.
Jeff says the 25% off sale continues at Darby Creek Nursery, and even the mums are discounted! It’s a great time to stop by and add some late-season color or plant a few trees and shrubs while the soil is still warm.
Jeff also shared a few fall maintenance reminders. Now is the time to wrap up any grass seeding, since colder weather will soon slow germination. However, hold off on pruning trees and shrubs until we get deeper into colder weather, when plants are fully dormant.
Stop by Darby Creek Nursery at 9050 Amity Pike for expert advice and great fall savings while the planting season lasts.
