More than 14m adults across the UK are interested in joining community gardens, finds new report.
Speaking at yesterday’s RHS Autumn Press Conference for the launch of the charity’s new report, director general Clare Matterson highlighted the importance of accessible community gardening.
“Let’s get every local authority to have community gardening within their local plans as an integral and required part.”
Matterson goes on to say that just a “small amount of funding” would aid in creating more community gardening opportunities for the nation.
According to the new RHS report, ‘Space to Grow’, 30% of groups whose primary purpose is community gardening, operate on under £500 annually.
While a further 56% raise concerns over the long-term stability of their groups.
Published today – alongside the new RHS State of Gardening Report – the data collected is poised to create an overview of the 2025 UK community gardening movement.
The full report can be found on the RHS website.
