(Merrill, Wis) – Hollie Stoerzer founded her dream business, the Plant Garden Center, four years ago. And every year during the fall she has had extra trees and shrubs she wasn’t sure what to do with. But this season she will be auctioning off her extra plants for a good cause.
“Being a business owner you get a lot of requests for donations and stuff,” said Stoerzer. “And we try to fulfill everything that we can and we got creative this fall. We have some trees and shrubs left over and we wanted to do something good for the Merrill community.”
50% of the auction’s proceeds will go towards helping the non-profit HAVEN, a sexual assault and support agency in Merrill, who are currently dealing with government funding cuts.
HAVEN’s director Kim West said “For 2025 we experienced a lot of funding cuts and we needed to reach out to the community for support.”
“I think for any non-profit relying on government funding and donations has got to be a hard thing to deal with. So I think if we as a community can get together and give them some support, I feel blessed to be able to do this.” said Stoerzer
There will be over 100 different shrubs and trees up for auction including oak and apple trees, and rare shrubs that Stoerzer (Stir-zer) says would make good fall decorations.
Stoerzer also says even if the auction doesn’t make much she still feels the need to help HAVEN in any way she can.
“To me it feels amazing, I’m not sure what the auction is gonna bring in and how much we can help them but I imagine any bit helps.” said Stoerzer
The Tree and Shrub auction will be held at the Plant Garden Center this Saturday at 10am.
