Gardening fans were thrilled as Monty Don, the much-loved presenter of Gardeners’ World, made an exciting announcement outside of his usual TV appearances. Aged 69, the esteemed presenter and gardening expert has carved out time from his packed schedule to host a special talk for his admirers.

Fans will have the opportunity to see him live in London later this year, where he’ll share tales of his global journeys and experiences at his renowned Herefordshire home, Longmeadow, reports the Express. Monty Don and his wife Sarah’s residence, set amidst the serene beauty of Herefordshire, boasts the famous garden featured on BBC’s Gardener’s World.

From this idyllic location, Monty took to Instagram to share with his followers: “I’m delighted to announce that I’m going to do a one-off talk, the only one this year, on October 19 at the Dominion Theatre in London. I’m going to be telling stories about how we made this garden here at Longmeadow and about my travels around the world.”

The news sparked a wave of enthusiasm among his fans, who quickly expressed their excitement in the comments section, with many applauding the news with clapping emojis. One fan said: “Thoroughly recommended after my daughter and I were lucky enough to have tickets for Monty’s talk in Exeter earlier this year. An excellent evening.”

Another chimed in with “Lucky London,” while someone else queried whether Monty’s talk would be recorded, allowing those unable to attend in person to enjoy the event remotely. Meanwhile, international fans are appealing for Monty to visit their countries, with individuals from Australia, Canada, and the United States expressing hope for his future travels.

This follows Monty having to respond to criticisms aimed at Gardeners’ World. A recurring point of contention has been the considerable birdsong at Monty Don’s Longmeadow garden, which some doubting viewers suggested might be artificial sounds added by the BBC. Yet Monty confirmed that the avian symphony is entirely genuine.

During an episode of the Gardeners’ World podcast, he said: “We’ve had a number of letters along the lines of: ‘I watch Gardeners’ World and I really enjoy it, but it’s spoiled for me by the fact that you impose this bird song which is so unrealistic and so over the top… why don’t you just record the natural sounds?’ And the answer is… I hate to disappoint you, but that is the natural sound.”
