One of my friends gave me this baby off of her original plant. Does it have enough roots to be planted directly into soil or should I water prop it first?
Best practice is to wait for the roots to have roots before planting. I’d keep her in water for another few weeks!

So when you take a plant out of the soil like that it basically strips the root of everything that makes it a root. (Root hairs etc.) The root becomes unable to absorb water due to the lack of root hairs and surface area. The root will most likely be unable to recover fast enough before the plant dies from thirst. If you put it in dirt I would say it will likely rot/die 80-90% of the time. I would suggest cutting off that root and putting it in water to propagate and grow new roots with a stable root system.
