Adam Frost has revealed that he “didn’t know” an incident that once forced him to make a public apology had even taken place. During a recent chat, the BBC Gardeners’ World star – who presents alongside gardening legends Monty Don and Carol Klein – discussed his growing collection of pets.

Alongside Isla the Labrador and Ash the cat, Adam now has a miniature Jack Russell called Buster, who’s joined his family, which also includes wife Sulina and their four children, Abi-Jade, Jacob, Amber-Lily and Oakley. However, it was a hilarious mishap involving his newest four-legged friend that led Adam to make his apology. When questioned about whether he had any bad habits, he insisted “not massively” before divulging details of the awkward situation.

Speaking to The Times, Adam explained: “I did make one public apology. I’m watering while doing a piece to camera when Buster decided to relieve himself behind me. I didn’t know it had happened.”

He went on: “You can imagine them sat in the edit room saying, ‘Shall we leave it in?’ Habit-wise Ash tends to lie on boxes of seedlings when the greenhouse is warm: you go in and half of them are flat in the shape of a cat.

“And Buster comes in with his bowl in his mouth and throws it on the floor. You go, ‘Hold on a minute, I’ve fed him once today’. Or the children text, ‘Have you fed the cat?’ Either way you can guarantee the cat will get a second dinner.”

In other news, Adam has also shared insights into his home life with another key member of his family, his wife Sulina, whom he refers to as Mrs Frost, saying “she’s a bit scary”.

Speaking to Yours magazine, Adam referred to the old phrase that “behind every successful man is a strong woman”, but it seems there’s a slight difference when it comes to Sulina.

He said: “They always say behind every successful man is a strong woman. She’s more than strong, she’s a bit scary.

“The kids say she’s a lioness. If you’re unpleasant to me or the children, you end up with the wrath of Mrs Frost. We don’t want to cross Mrs Frost.”

Interestingly, this dynamic extends to Adam’s domain – the garden. Despite being a seasoned gardener, it appears there are some disagreements between the couple over their outdoor space.

While Adam enjoys “gardening for wildlife”, Sulina prefers a neater garden. In one instance, he found an evergreen that he believed should be left alone, only to discover that Sulina had “trimmed it back”.

He added that, when it comes to their garden, Adam seems like the “most experienced understudy in the country”.
