This is a follow up to my previous post: My take on a full-sun boulevard/tree lawn/hellstrip planting after receiving MN's Lawns to Legumes grant
We finally finished our boulevard site prep & planting last week! It went really well, but it took a shit ton of work lol (about 10 hours of site prep and 6 hours of planting with a drill & auger). We didn't have a ton of time for the site prep, so we opted for our tried and true garden fork + sift out all the plant material method (using 1/2" hardware cloth as a sifter). This has worked really well in the past, but it takes a lot of work. In the end we got ~190 plugs in the ground!
We planted way more densely than I originally planned, so I'm going to have to order ~60-70 more plugs to plant next spring (reference the previous post I linked for the plant selections). Dense plug planting has always worked really well for me (I like planting plugs at ~6" centers), and I'm really excited to see how these take next year!

Is there any downside to dense plug spacing, other than cost? Currently replanting my dad’s lawn and did 12 inches on center to cover the whole space, and am wondering if next time I should just buy more. Although they are all rhizomatous species so think they will fill in quickly
Well done! That’s a lot of good work! Can’t wait to see another update!
