IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Federal court documents show the worker detained by ICE agents last month at Bread Garden Market in Iowa City, has been indicted on three counts by a grand jury.
According to the indictment filed October 9, Jorge Eliecer Gonzalez Ochoa is charged with:
Fraud and Misuse of DocumentsUse of Immigration Identification Documents Not Lawfully IssuedFalse Representation of Social Security Number
Gonzalez was arrested by ICE during his shift at the Bread Garden Market on September 25. Video of his arrest shows ICE agents, in plainclothes, taking Gonzalez to the ground in front of customers and coworkers. He is then loaded into a van and taken away.
The indictment accuses Gonzalez of possessing a Permanent Resident Card bearing the name “Elijah Rodriguez.” The indictment says Gonzalez knew the document had been forged, counterfeited, altered, and falsely made. The alien registration number on the card was also not his, according to the indictment.
Following his arrested, Escucha Mi Voz said Gonzalez and his wife came to the U.S. from Colombia in November 2024. They lived with their infant son at the Catholic Worker House in Iowa City.
