Applications for the 2026 garden waste collection service is now open and will cost £71 per bin.

The charge will include fortnightly collections of garden waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves and small branches.

The charge has increased £3.50 since last year; the council has said the cost of the service has increased in line with RPI over the past few years.

The cost of garden waste collection has risen 54 per cent since 2020.

From 2026, the council has said that residents will not need a sticker for their bins as collection crews will have an electronic record of all registered addresses.

Additionally, collection calendars will not be sent out but can instead be found on the BCP Council website.

These measures are due to the council’s ‘commitment to sustainability’.

To receive all 23 collections for the 2026 service residents should register by December 31, 2025.

Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for environment at BCP Council, said: “Our garden waste service continues to be a popular and valued offering for residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, turning waste into useful compost.

“Over the past year, we collected over 12,000 tonnes of garden waste, helping to divert valuable organic material from landfill and support our sustainability goals.

“By making calendars available online and removing the need for bin stickers, we’re streamlining the service while reducing waste. I encourage everyone to renew early and make the most of this convenient, eco-friendly collection.”
