There’s something really joyful about pulling a nice big carrot out of the ground. After failing miserably at them last year using seedlings (I know) this year I sowed directly and they’re all coming up beautifully. Except I find myself disappointed every time I pull a white one even when they are larger than my Size 8 W shoe!

I used a rainbow heirloom mix and so far they are two white to any other colour. The mix was to be red, orange, pink, purple, and yellow… with no mention of white. 😹 They are not parsnips either. Just throwbacks I guess.

So, to recap or TL;DR Direct sow>seedlings; standard orange>fancy heirloom if you’re looking for that dopamine rush when harvesting.

You’ve just given me the most delightfully devilish idea. I’m growing a daikon cross this season, and basically what I’ve ended up with is radishes that look exactly like white carrots when the greens are removed.

If I planted *those*, plus parsnips, plus rainbow heirloom carrots…

Looks awesome! There’s cool fancy orange cultivars too. I’ve fallen in love with Rodelika, so much taste and they’re huge!

But also, why not autumn sow some parsnips as well? 😁

I grew carrots for the first time this season as well. Used a similar heirloom variety seed pack. However my colors were pretty evenly mixed. I figured I would never eat them fast enough, so most for diced & frozen. Will be great for soups/stews/etx.
