Members of Garden Group of GFWC Women’s Club of Bowling Green gathered in September at the Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, bringing canned goods or shelf stable items for the Otsego Food Pantry. Co-President Sara Moomaw opened the meeting with members answering roll call with tips on fall gardening cleanup. Members enjoyed veggie and dessert snacks, prepared by hostesses, Pam Vollmar, Carol Ballard, and Linda Moore, while Ballard gave a Five minutes or Less presentation on the Jade plant; she told members of the beauty of the plant along with its toxicity to animals and small children.

In current business, thanks to members who once again helped in the Wood County Fair Flower Show to help with set up, tear down, and filling vases on the day of the show; discussion was held in regard to continuance of the sales table. The Garden Group Holiday Art & Craft Show raffle basket “Art in the Garden” is completed, which includes a glass piece donated by Vollmar. The North End Welcome Sign plant watering schedule continued through the end of September; Garden Group maintains this planting throughout the summer, providing a colorful welcome to our city for visitors from the north.

Linda Kuhn and Linda Hamilton attended the OAGC 2025 Convention August 17-19th at Embassy Suites, Dublin, OH, and Hamilton gave a detailed recap of the activities and presentations. The Welcome Sign planting was suggested as a possible entry for an award in a future year.

In Standing Committee Reports, Jo Vernon shared information about bird feathers no longer being used on hats, Jean Ladd advised to not bring your plants indoor due to insects and fungus, and Sharon Daniels advised it was time to plant spring bulbs.

Garden Group then traveled to A Drop of Honey in downtown Grand Rapids where Emily Householder gave a presentation on the processes used in this family business to produce various honey-based products. Next meeting will be Oct. 21st at the Pumpkin Patch.
