Black widow spiders do not die in winter. Instead, they enter a state of dormancy known as overwintering. They seek warmer locations to hibernate, such as storage sheds or garages, where they can conserve energy and avoid predators. In cold-winter areas, their metabolism slows down, but they are not entirely inactive; they may still be present but less active. When the weather warms up in spring, they emerge to find new mates and resume their activity. There we go Laura…I live in Canada so I do not worry about those but we do worry about bears…lol…Thanks for all the years I have watched your videos, it's so very wonderful <3
I really struggle with the whole growing zone thing. Your growing zone and mine are identical but we have a much shorter actual growing season than you do. You are able to plant way before and way after I can here. Then you add in all the micro zones. I'm not sure that the growing zones are really all that helpful for new gardeners. I always appreciate that you point out that some of your advise is for your specific area not the zone. Thanks for the recap videos. They are a great learning opportunity and also help build your community.
We bought Ryobi tools in 2007-2008 when we built our house … those nail guns still work … we have all Ryobi tools and have had no problems with them … 😊
Wanted to add to the nutsedge comment. I too am fighting it in my flower beds. According to the label, Sedge Edge from Bonide is not for ornamental plants, trees, and beds. It’s for lawns.
Laura, I know exactly what you mean about the vintage Christmas lights. I have a memory as a child of our parents allowing us to sleep in the living room one year, and just watching the Christmas tree lights until I went to sleep, it was such a core, nostalgic memory that I have never been able to achieve; they just don’t make those colours anymore 😭
I live in seattle and also have a hardy begonia that comes back every year (so far 5 or 6 yrs.)🤞It's also in a pot. The leaves are magnificent in size and color and the clustered small white (waxy looking) flowers are plentiful. It is in a very sheltered spot and I'm generous with the water in the summer. Otherwise it doesn't get too much attention, except for me staring at it in wonder when it shows up😂
QUESTION: I’m questioning why so many of the questions you receive are prefaced by the word “QUESTION” when Garden Answer Highlights is there to help answer questions. It’s questionable why folks feel the need to warn you that a question is coming by typing the word “QUESTION”. Just a question. 🤣
I live right next to the Badlands of North Dakota. We have very few magpies, so few that I kind of celebrate when I see one. Now I know why there’s not a lot.
Hi Guys, I did a house sit in Australia on a property of cane fields and had to care for 2 dogs, 14 chickens and 40 ducks!!! I asked the owner about ducks going to bed and he said "good luck with that!!" Lol. The trick was to leave the shed light on and go out to shut the gate after dark. They had a fenced area within a fenced area so I would go and shut them in (not knowing the head count). One night I noticed one duck outside of the full enclosure 😮. I took the dogs with me to round it up but they just looked at me confused😅😅😅. I just wished the duck well and luckily in the morning it was around and alive 😢 as there were wild boar and dingos living in the canefields 😮. I travelled Australia and this house sit holds the biggest memories (along with one with 2 dogs, 2 ponies and a wild magpie that was allowed inside the house. I would feed it minced meat, so the dogs would hang out for some too.l, then we would take carrots out to the ponies of which the two dogs would have a bite each before handing over to the ponies 😂). Oh and I am Australian and encourage people to travel your own country to appreciate what's in your own backyard. I have been over seas (including USA) but there's no place like home. I have to say that I'm glad I have been to USA as there is NO WAY I would come there with your orange leader in charge!!! (Sorry)

Daikon radishes will help break up hard soil. Gypsum will as well, but it takes a lot and it also takes a long time.
Great story

Aaron and Laura, thanks for another great recap video.
Helloooo there! Got a question….?? What have y’all decided on doing with the white barn roof in regard to the snow load and garden below??
Great recap. Love watching you guys. Hope you have a fun wedding weekend. Have a blessed day everyone.
I love the cameras in my coop. I can make sure they are all in and the automatic door is closed at night from the comfort of my couch.

For us in NE Texas, it’s snakes. Everytime I see you just pruning things I cringe.
Why not put a wire cloche over the iris to keep the magpie from pulling it out.

did you think to put chicken wire over the iris to protact it from magpie 😮💨
Have you considered a portable chicken run on wheels? I’ve seen them in clips and I bet the chickens would love it.
YOU NEED A CHICKEN TRACTOR 🐥 😂 to control the poop and the chickens lol 😆 thank you for all From the land down under 🐨🇦🇺🦘👒
Maybe because you are way hotter in Oregon than here in Toronto but I love my geraniums. They still look great until November. I just love them.
