That’s kind of fucked. It’s compostable, but not in California where they believe materials it’s made with are not safe

This is the one time I think I might side with California on this one…..

I’m not in California but I wouldn’t let the state decide for me anyway. Looks too shiny to compost maybe pcbs. But how the hell would they know. You can take my compost when you pry it from my cold dead hands lol 😂

A lot of stuff that is “compostable” is not actually something you want in your soil. The overall object you toss into the compost may “break down” in the sense of turning into something unrecognizable, but the plastic coatings don’t actually break down into soil nutrients. For example, the disposable plate might disintegrate in the pile, and the paper fibers might be broken down by the soil organisms into something beneficial, but the coatings might not, and they become something like microplastics or other non-beneficial substance in your soil. I’m pretty skeptical about the various “compostable” plastics on the market — bags, disposable utensils, disposable plates and cups, etc. It might seem like the bags, utensils, plates are gone after composting, but the non-beneficial plasticy substances may just be dispersed into your soil and eventually your food.
