Here’s my front yard maple. Any insight into wants going on? Is it beyond help???

    This isn’t good. It might need to be cut down. It’s fungus/decay related- but some recon would need to be done to determine what started it. Usually sprinkler heads, girdling roots, excess soil at the trunk goes holding moisture.

    Hire a real arborist to do a root crown excavation, assess quality of callus wood at edge of decay area, assess health of remaining crown and make a pruning or removal plan based on risk assessment.

    Anyone that looks at these 2 pics and declares removal necessary isn’t an arborist.
