Monty Don, the beloved presenter of Gardener’s World, has excited fans with news that his Chelsea Flower Show garden will boast some special guests. The gardening guru, who has never before crafted a garden for the esteemed annual showcase, was enticed this time to develop a dog-friendly area.
His golden retriever Ned is set to make a special appearance at the event on Monday, May 19. During an interview on The One Show, Monty shared with hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Jones a heartwarming detail, reports the Express.
He said: “Here’s the other thing, Ned’s mother and sister, who he’s never seen since I took him away at eight weeks old are also going to be there.”

After welcoming Ned into his family in October 2022, the cuddly canine quickly became a fan favourite through his cameos on Monty’s gardening programmes. Post-show, Monty’s thoughtfully designed garden will be relocated to Battersea Dogs Home.
With the event kicking off on Tuesday, May 20 and running until Saturday, May 24, Monty highlighted a unique aspect of his dog-centric garden design, avoiding straight paths to reflect the meandering way dogs prefer to walk,
He said: “The whole thing is, I have been an organic gardener for so many years and I beat the organic drum. We should encourage wildlife and all the rest of it. Traditionally, mowing a tight lawn is pretty restrictive, I quite like lawns but… I’ve said from the beginning, this is a garden where dogs play, they make a mess, maybe a little terrier digs a hole, there’s balls there.
“So you can’t have an immaculate golf green lawn, it’s got to have a life and be lived and that’s what it is. The simplicity is in the idea, it’s a garden for people who love gardens and love dogs, that’s the story, there’s nothing else to it. In making it, it’s just about the most complex thing I’ve ever done in my life but there we are, the idea is simple,” he said.
