I recently posted about the creation of a Clover lawn, it got largely positive feedback and some where even going to do one themselves.
A few queried about cutting it, I hadn’t planned on cutting TBH as I wanted the green fluffy carpet look through winter, decided this week I want to plant Crocuses (Ruby Giant) for some spring colour before the clover itself flowers in summer so had to bite the bullet and cut it on the highest setting on my mower.
Surprisingly it is far far thicker below the leaf canopy and it’s turned what was left of any grass very green too.
I’ve used the cuttings as a mulch feed around other plants as clover is rich in nitrogen, (free fertiliser)
This is the greenest my lawn has ever been even though the clover has the vast majority of its leaves cut.
Going to plant 300 Crocus bulbs now, hopefully this looks stunning in February/March with a mass of large purple/white flowers, the beauty with this plan having a clover lawn is I’ll not need to cut the lawn for several weeks after at which point the crocus leaves will have taken their energy back into the bulb before being cut.
Photos include, after cutting, before sowing, before cutting, and the Crocusus that are being planted today, when I cut the test patch I did in summer it got its dark geeen leaves back in around 2 weeks so I’m hoping this will grow its leaves back before it goes dormant.
