Police say they have made hundreds of arrests, partly thanks to help from the public.
Greater Manchester Police has a specialist unit to deal with the issues around Piccadilly Gardens, which is one of the key gateways into the city centre.
And the neighbourhood team is set to be strengthened after a Government cash injection, with more officers and resources being targeted in the area.

The police work with Manchester City Council to come up with long-term solutions to deal with issues in the area.

City of Manchester District Commander, Chief Superintendent David Meeney said: “Since March we have seen 342 arrests resulting in 279 charges/ cautions, 511 stop searches, 37 weapons seized, and large amounts of Class A and Class B drugs seized. We will continue to take action in this area ensuring criminals know they cannot operate here.

“We remain committed to improving both the perception of Piccadilly Gardens and the public’s sense of safety in the area. However, this is not something we can achieve alone. We will continue to work closely with our partners and deploy additional police resources whenever intelligence or demand indicates a need for increased presence.
