I’m not sure what it is but I’m thinking maybe a California Sycamore? For reference, this picture was taken in West Hollywood, CA.

Yesterday one of its limbs broke off suddenly and hit my car. There was no wind or other external factors. I’m curious if the tree appears to be dying? The limb that hit my car was completely dry inside. Thank you!

    Both of the sycamores are in fact dying. Trees of that size were never meant to be planted in a concrete island and their days were numbered the second they were put in the ground. Could have been from improper growing conditions, lack of water, or a communicable disease. Either way I don’t see these trees living another year

    California sycamores are deciduous and it is October, also it doesn’t look like they’re irrigated so maybe that’s why they’re prematurely dropping their leaves. They’re incredibly hardy and adaptable trees and will drop leaves in drought, maybe try to irrigate them during long stretches of hot and dry weather.
