I made a tiny side project because I kept asking “is today actually a good day to mow?” and then lost 20 minutes in weather apps. it’s called lawnforecast.com. you type a city and it tells you, in plain words, mow / water / or hold, plus a short reason and the basics (temp, rain, wind). the screenshot is from my phone so you can see how it looks on mobile.
it’s free and if something looks off, tell me what city you tried and what felt wrong and I’ll try to fix it. I’m just one person working on this nights/weekends, so please be gentle but honest.
it’s meant as a nudge, not gospel, use common sense if the lawn is soggy or the wind’s howling. if you like it, awesome. if not, I’d still love to hear why so I can make it better. mods: if this isn’t allowed, happy to take it down. thanks and happy mowing.
btw: there might be 1-2 bugs on the page which i will fix in the upcoming days 😃

Interesting concept. We are in a month long drought so recs are all the same but I’ll check back in when it’s constant rain off and on this might be of good use.
One small feedback is I see red for water and think stop or don’t but it actually means it’s okay. Maybe consider green and water ok like you have for mow or something not red.
Thanks for sharing!
I’d recommend pulling in soil temps to help with seeding / germination / pre-emergent application / fertilizer application / etc.
I don’t typically water. I keep my lawn at 4 inches tall. I would love to see something that is using a cumulative total rainfall over a period, modified by your EVAP metric. Using a cumulative rainfall shortage to indicate possible stress/drought events requiring water.
My quick review was “did it rain today” yes/no and an inverse response “should I water today.”
