Visitors will be invited to take part in a public consultation to determine the next direction for the popular land and how new life could be breathed into the gardens.

There will be hands-on activities, including leaf printing with Art in Whitefield, and wildflower planting with Incredible Edible Prestwich and District.

The event will take place on Sunday, October 19, from 1.30pm to 4pm at the gardens next to Slattery’s.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader and cabinet member for strategic growth at Bury Council, said: “This event is just the beginning of breathing new life into the gardens and into Whitefield town centre.

“We’re inviting residents, businesses and community groups to join us for an enjoyable afternoon and to have their say in shaping the future of this once cherished space through the public consultation.

“Together, we can reimagine the Old Town Hall Gardens as a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable part of Whitefield town centre.”

Other activities include a history hunt, story sharing, and a chance to meet the trees with Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Small Things Creative Projects are leading the event on behalf of the council to spark ‘imaginative ideas’ and conversations about the future of the gardens.

Visitors can also enjoy coffee from Six String Coffee and speak with representatives from Bury Council and the National Trust.

The event marks the start of the delivery phase of the Whitefield Town Centre Plan, which outlines the vision for developing and improving the area.

The event is funded through the UK Government’s Local Growth Place Flexible Grant.
