This just popped up out of nowhere. I haven't checked on this bed for a couple weeks and I didn't plant this (knowingly). The bulb looks like some sort of onion but the leaves look like it could be something else. Possibly from something that was in my compost.

The plant parent app called it a chinese orchid but i'm not convinced. Does this look familiar to anyone else?

Looks like some type of bulb, maybe a lily.

It seems to be a plant. I don’t recommend eating it

I thought skunk cabbage but I’m a notoriously poor gardener. I too recommend not eating it

How interesting! I agree with your assessment, and am now curious what it will turn out to be. The bulb looks like an onion, but those leaves do look orchid-like. Following!

Interesting, let it grow and give us an update when it’s bigger or blooming

Some kind of Lilly or orchid I’d guess

  7. It is the invasive chineese orchid. Yank it, bag it and throw in the trash or burn. DO NOT COMPOST.

If you live in zone 7 or colder it’s much less of a concern, but it’s a problematic invasive in areas without a harsh winter.

It’s usually transported site to site in mulch

Looks like ditch lily. Get rid of it while you can. Spent most of the summer digging up my front garden be to rid myself of these devils. They are still popping up well into fall

Every once in a while, I have something similar pop up in my yard. They grow in clusters of typically 3 or more. If left alone, it will grow a long “stem” about 12″ high. Unfortunately, my husband always gets it with the mower before it “blooms” if it’s a flower.
Yours could be the same thing. Or maybe a seed dropped by a bird flying overhead.
Please keep us posted, Im curious what’s growing.
