Annual California Rare Fruit Growers apple tasting
The annual California Rare Fruit Growers apple tasting is upon us, happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilder Ranch State Park, 1401 Coast Road. They will have over 70 types of apples to sample, spanning the flavor spectrum from sweet and mild to intense, fruity and electrifying. Featuring over a dozen varieties of pink-fleshed apples, including last year’s grand champion: the VIP. There will also be European dessert apples like Karmijn de Sonnaville, Suntan and Allen’s Everlasting, as well as American classics like Spitzenberg, King David and Macoun available to sample. Admission is $5 per person, with family discounts available.

Rise with the gardeners for early garden exchange
Stop by the early morning garden exchange from 8-9 a.m. Oct. 25, held at the Santa Cruz Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Ave. Park in the northern rows of the parking lot away from the building. Gardeners are welcome to bring seeds, bulbs, succulents, houseplants, veggies, fresh flowers, informational material or any garden-related items to trade within the garden community.
The Santa Cruz Garden Exchange is a free event where local residents bring extra garden-related items to give away. No money is exchanged, and participants are not required to bring anything to take part. However, attendees are expected to take home any items they bring that are not given away.
Evening exchanges are on hold until next spring. Early morning exchanges take place the fourth Saturday of every month from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Live Oak Grange. For information, email santacruzgardenexchange@gmail.com.

UCSC Farm Annual Harvest is here
Join the UC Santa Cruz Farm for this year’s Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 94 Ranch View Road. Connect with community on the campus farm with live music, pumpkin decorating, hands-on workshops, tractor tours, face painting and an annual apple pie baking contest. Free entry for current students of UCSC, Hartnell and Cabrillo colleges, Friends of the UCSC Farm and Garden members, and children under 12. Admission is $5 for the general public. Please be aware not to harvest produce from the farm. There will be a produce stand for purchases.

Watsonville Wetlands Watch to host annual native plant sale
Watsonville Wetlands Watch will host its annual Fall Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Patrick J. Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center in Pajaro Valley High School, 500 Harkins Slough Road. The sale will feature native and drought-tolerant plants — grown by interns, volunteers and staff — that attract birds, bees and butterflies and help save water. Hundreds of plants spanning dozens of species will be available for purchase.
Watsonville Wetlands Watch staff and the UC Master Gardeners of Monterey Bay will be at the event to answer gardening questions. Guests will be able to tour an on-site native plant demonstration garden at the Resource Center. Proceeds go toward supporting local wetlands restoration and education. Yoga on the farm
Achieve a state of deep calm and inner peace with Guided by Yoga with Robin at the Cosentino Family Farm, 4977 Carter Ave., Nov. 8 from 9-10 a.m. All you need is a yoga mat and your best downward dog. Robin is a devoted student of yoga and mindfulness, teaching at Village Yoga, Trout Farm and private sessions at Seabright Beach. Her teaching style is sincere, intuitive and lighthearted. Cost is $30 per person. All levels are welcome. Ages 15 and older, please.
