BROOKSTON, Ind.(WLFI) – Shannon Floral Co. started out of a garage and now it’s in a beautiful new space nearly ready for customers.
Brittany Shannon and her mom Velma Smiley are bringing both real and silk flowers to Brookston.
“There was a flower shop here before and so it was so nice to have that setup here already but we wanted to make it Shannon Floral Co.”
Shannon previously worked at Wright’s Flower Shop and is now able to take what she learned for her own business. She says running a flower shop is more than making bouquets. You’re apart of the best and worst days of people’s lives.
“When I worked at Wright’s, I got the advice of ‘It’s a love business.’ So I can’t really claim that, but I do hold that true to my heart that it’s a love business. So if it’s a happy or a sad occasion, people send flowers because it’s out of love,” said Shannon.
Shannon and Smiley balance each other out, learning from each other with their different techniques and creating a variety of arrangements and services for customers.
“Kind of combines her fresh with my silk, and we’ll get to have a full service,” said Smiley.
For Shannon and Smiley, arrangements are about making things personalized and unique. Locals in Brookston have already expressed their excitement for the flower shop.
“They’re just excited to be able to have you know full service where we can do proms, events, corsages, boutonnieres. Just being able to have for the funerals, we’ve actually already had a few people wanting stuff,” said Smiley.
Shannon Floral Co. is hosting its grand opening this Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be sweet treats, a flower giveaway and a chance to get to meet the owners.
“We’re excited to be in Brookston and ready for the grand opening,” said Shannon.
Shannon Floral Co. is located at 116 West 3rd Street in Brookston.
