Master Gardeners sets fall seminar in Mandeville

The St. Tammany Master Gardener Association, in conjunction with the LSU AgCenter, will host a seminar with speakers on design, seed preservation and boutiques on Friday, at Church of the King, 22205 Little Creed Road, in Mandeville.

Laura Dowling, former chief floral designer at the White House, will speak on holiday design, and John Coykendall, artist and Master Gardener, will discuss saving and preserving seeds.

Tickets for the event, which is from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., are $60 and sold in advance only. Visit stmastergardener.org.

The Greater New Orleans Iris Society’s annual Rhizome Sale will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Longue Vue House and Gardens, 7 Bamboo Road, in New Orleans.

Home Show at Convention Center this weekend

The Louisiana Home Show is setting up shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with information on home improvement, remodeling, landscaping and decorating.

Professionals and exhibitors will display some of the most current concepts for home design in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center’s Hall I.

From asphalt to windows and most things in between, experts will be on hand, as well as financial companies and insurance providers.

Terror-irums? Longue Vue class plans mini-gardens

Part of the Garden Workshop series, Longue Vue House and Gardens will host a class on building spooky terrariums for the fall season Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.

Leigh Gradiz, the head gardener at the historic home at 7 Bamboo Road, will lead the class open to all ages.

Tickets for the class begin at $75. Children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult, with two children per adult maximum.
