Received this plant from the estate of a family member who passed away. I received it in a somewhat similar condition to the photos, but other plants that I received have shown new growth and an improvement in health, whereas this one only seems to have declined.

It sits near a window that receives some morning sun. I have been watering it a few times per week.

    Calathea rattlesnake

I have no care instructions to provide as I killed mine 🙃others will have better answers as far as care is concerned. Good luck!

Do you have a humidifier these plants need a lot of moisture. Like 50% at least

    R/calatheas They’re fickle plants.

That would cause overwatering and rot. It needs humidity in the air. You can get one fairly cheap on Amazon. Between 20 and 40 also a good place to keep plants that need more humidity is in the bathroom.

After looking at it more it may be overwatered which drowns and suffocates the plant which causes dry brittle leaves. Only water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil are dry

Try less water and less sun. The soil may need to be changed.

I think your overwatering it, I have one and that thing is lucky if it gets water once a month and it seems pretty happy

There are thrips in your plant. It should be treated with soap that is for plants. It should be washed on both sides of the leaves, and all damaged leaves should be cut off.

  9. Calatheas need high humidity. I think that’s 99% of the reason why most people end up killing them.

Could try getting one of those plant closets with clear windows and getting the humidity up for plants that need it.

It doesn’t seems that your pot can drain excess water

Looks like that pot has no drainage holes which is why the soil looks so wet.. First step would be to repot it and give it some new soil which might help perk it up.  And a few times a week is way too much watering for a calathea, they need humidity in the air but not in their soil. I’ve been down to two rattlesnake leaves and the plant has recovered so there’s definitely potential for yours!
