MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Flowers have the power to bring a smile to someone’s face.
On Wednesday, florists across the country brightened moods with Petal It Forward Day.
You’ve likely heard the phrase paying it forward, but what about petaling it forward?
On this day, Flower Central customers like Kim Urban are using their trip to the florist to spread a little extra joy.
“For me, it is heartfelt, because I am going to donate mine to two different people, I’m blessing two today,” said Urban.
The nationwide campaign invites flower shops to give two free bouquets to customers, in hopes that they donate one and keep one.
Urban said the gift of fresh blooms can serve as an internal hug that sometimes people need.
Flower Central owner Niki Brose said they’ve taken part in the celebration for roughly five years.
“We used to just give out two bouquets, keep one, give one, and we kind of added our own little twist to it,” said Brose.
Brose said last year they added the option of giving a freewill donation to a local nonprofit.
She said this year they partnered with The Difference.
“She helps victims of trauma with different types of therapy, natural therapies, and there is so many different modalities that are involved,” said Brose.
Flower Central orders the bouquets pre-made from the wholesaler.
Brose said last year they gave out nearly 300 bouquets.
Brose said they ordered 200 bouquets to hand out this year.
She said in previous years, they’ve run out by 1 p.m. and had to make more from the flowers they have on hand.
