Gigs in the Garden, a free outdoor concert series, returns in October with a varied lineup of Ozarks performers in the beautiful setting of the Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park.

This fall’s dates and performers are:

• 2 p.m., Sunday, October 19: The Henderson Kids features dynamic musical siblings delivering a mix of classic covers and soulful, original songs. They’re joined by their good friend and longtime collaborator, Brandon Moore, a talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

• 2 p.m., Sunday, October 26: Isaac Walker is a 17-year-old singer-songwriter from Oldfield, Mo., performing original songs that reflect the rich storytelling tradition of Americana music.

Springfield Sister Cities Association hosts the free concerts at the Peace Through People Pavilion in the park’s Kay Cummins Finnie Memorial Dogwood Garden, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield. Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. In case of rain, the shows will be moved into the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center.

Beer and wine are available for purchase. Organizers encourage a suggested donation of $10; this year’s proceeds are designated for universal access enhancements at the park.

A new feature this year includes a kids’ make-and-take activity tent themed around Japanese or Mexican culture as a nod to Springfield’s two sister cities: Isesaki, Japan, and Tlaquepaque, Mexico.

This spring and fall concert series, now in its 10th year, is organized by Ric Mayer and Linda Chorice. This year’s presenting sponsor is the Musgrave Foundation. The Gold Sponsor is Mediacom and the series also is supported by Tom Finnie, donor for the Dogwood Garden and the Peace Through People Pavilion. SSCA partners with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, the Springfield Botanical Gardens and Friends of the Garden to produce the series.

SSCA is committed to providing universal access to its events. The event location includes concrete paths from which to watch the performers, wheelchair-accessible restrooms and designated handicapped parking. A limited number of wheelchairs are available on a first-come basis. If specific accommodations are needed, please call 417-864-1191 to request assistance.
