Old Barn Garden Centre in Dial Post, near Horsham, hosted the Horticultural Trades Association’s (HTA) second Regional Crime Meeting on Thursday, October 9, bringing together industry leaders and police to discuss crime prevention in the horticultural sector.
The event was attended by Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne OBE, representatives from national garden centre chains and Benjamin Tate, executive director of Tates of Sussex Garden Centres.
Mr Tate said: “Our goal is to make our four Sussex garden centres as safe and secure as possible.
“Meetings like this allow us to share best practice across the industry and ensure that the voices of businesses are heard at the highest level.”
The meeting focused on intelligence sharing, technological solutions for crime prevention, and improving communication between garden centres and police.
Attendees discussed ways to strengthen security for staff, customers and stock, particularly in rural areas.
The HTA said the regional meetings are designed to help members develop effective crime prevention strategies and build stronger relationships with law enforcement.
