We bought our house last October and it was 2 acres of grass only. The previous owners were big sticklers for mowing and also had animals that ate down all of the grass. The last two pictures show the spaces that are now wildflower meadows from when we moved in, so there has been a ton of growth over the one year.

We have been managing the fields by pulling invasives and monitoring, but I’m planning on adding other natives now since right now mostly what popped up was asters and goldenrod (not that I’m complaining lol). It’s not for everyone, but I like it so much more now, there’s a lot more biodiversity and bugs. We had maybe 200 monarchs stop by for just a day or two last week, it made me cry because of thinking about them just searching for flowers and food. Likewise all of the other bugs we saw throughout the year – it really is crazy that they’re all “out” there, just needing the habitat to support them, but they will come find it once it’s there. And yes, we have had some family members comment on the “weeds” growing. I hope that the shift in perspective from this spreads more over time.
