This week on Good Day Gardening, we caught up with Jeff Turnbull, owner of Darby Creek Nursery, following a hugely successful Fall Farm Fest weekend. Jeff says now is one of the best times of the year to be planting. As trees begin to go dormant for the season, they require less watering and can focus their energy on establishing strong root systems before winter.
Darby Creek Nursery is continuing their 25% off sale on most plants, making it a great time to take advantage of the cooler weather and get those last landscaping projects done.
Jeff also reminds homeowners that now is the final stretch for grass seeding. Getting it down soon gives the grass time to sprout and strengthen before temperatures drop too low. If you have broadleaf weeds, this is also a great time to treat or remove them, while they are still actively growing and easier to manage.
For vegetable gardeners, it’s time to start clearing out the garden beds, removing any dead or diseased plants to prevent problems next spring. Adding compost or leaf mulch can also help enrich the soil over winter.
Stop by Darby Creek Nursery at 9050 Amity Pike for expert advice and to take advantage of fall savings while planting season is still in full swing.
