How do you attach a recliner to your chair — and make it feel like it was always part of the chair? Vincent Sin, Head of Industrial Design at Secretlab, breaks down the engineering behind the Secretlab Ergonomic Recliner Add-On: secretlab.co/recliner

competitors were using telescopic tubes, which
is actually not ergonomic for your body. We quickly realized that wasn’t going to cut it.
The Sec ergonomic recliner add-on is designed to seamlessly integrate with your existing chair,
and we came up with the premise of this. We wanted to have a leg rest for comfort. We also wanted to
package it in a product that is easy to retract and doesn’t always get in the way. We work really
closely with the ergonomic advisory board. This defined a lot of the ways we approached the
recliner. We thought it was very important to have the ability and the freedom to move and
sit how you want. We made sure that it’s very very easy for you to adjust the angle to retract
it and to extend it all from a sitting position. We came up with a screwless mechanism where you
can just slot it onto the chair and lock it in place. Designed to be backwards compatible with
the Titan Evo as well as the classics. We do a lot of simulations built off the BIFFMA standards
and extended to make sure that it’s safe for our users. This final solution, the six bar linkage
allows the pillow to travel the way it does. This infinite adjustment and how it attaches to the
chair really hit the mark for the user experience.

  1. Funny enough this recliner add-on was the MAIN reason I spent money and bought a secret lab chair!

And to this day, best chair I’ve ever had
