The Washington Capitals make their first visit to Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, completing their early-season back-to-back in The Big Apple.

Against the New York Rangers, Spencer Carbery is making some changes after suggesting some might be coming pregame. Sonny Milano and Declan Chisholm are in, while Hendrix Lapierre and Trevor van Riemsdyk are out. Connor McMichael will get his first taste at third-line center this season after Lapierre won the rule out of training camp.

Charlie Lindgren will oppose Jonathan Quick in net.

Puck drop for Capitals-Rangers is at 7:00 pm on Monumental Sports Network. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin will have the call.

1st Period

Puck is dropped. Beauvillier-McMichael-Leonard and Fehervary-Carlson get the start from Spencer Carbery.

Huge stops from Charlie Lindgren early.

Rangers hit the post.

Ryan Leonard casually skating around 3 different Rangers in the neutral zone for a successful carry-in. Geez.

A much smaller Brandon Duhaime forces a giveaway from Matt Rempe as the Rangers’ enforcer tries to forecheck and box him out in the corner.

Charlie out there battling:

At intermission: It’s tied 0-0. The Rangers are outshooting the Capitals 14 to 9 and out-attempted them 27 to 26 at five-on-five.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

The Capitals third line remain in the Rangers offensive zone for about a minute straight with multiple good chances that miss the net.

🚨

1-0 Washington Capitals

Goal: Anthony Beauvillier (1). Assists: A. Ovechkin (2), D. Chisholm (1). Time: 13:47

Antony Beauvillier gets the Capitals on the board first after a great indirect shot/pass by Alex Ovechkin. The point is Ovechkin’s 1,625th of his career and his 728th assist.

Conor Sheary draws a tripping penalty on Tom Wilson, which feels like something I’d write in 2017. Rangers power play at 15:18.

Charlie Lindgren robs Mika Zibanejad again.

Right after they kill the penalty, Anthony Beauvillier to the box for hooking at 17:48.

Matt Rempe is getting power play time? I’m shocked by this.

At intermission: The Capitals lead 1-0. The Rangers now lead in shots 27 to 14 after out-firing the Caps 14 to 5 in the second period. The Rangers also lead in 5-on-5 shot attempts 42 to 35.

Intermission time!
