What’s better than having a drink in New Orleans? Having a drink in New Orleans in a swimming pool. You can do just that at the Garden District Hotel, one of the city’s newest stays. Located in the Garden District, the hotel, which was designed by Jeannine Jacobs, has a bright, tropical feel with open-air courtyards, a pool, and a bar. The lobby, with its dark patterned wallpaper and exposed brick, has a sophisticated look that evokes the city’s historic side.

The hotel puts you about a block a way from St. Charles Avenue and its streetcar, which can bring you straight to the French Quarter. It’s also a short walk to The National WII Museum and to Magazine Street, which is lined with restaurants and shops.

With just 47 rooms, the Garden District Hotel has an intimate but lively vibe. Most of the activity centers around the saltwater pool, which is heated-year round and surrounded by palm trees, cheerful striped patio umbrellas, and chairs for lounging. It’s a breezy area designed for long afternoon hangouts and socializing. (The pool deck also has day beds where you can kick back with a bit more privacy.) When you’re ready for a drink, paddle over to the city’s first swim-up bar. Snacks like shrimp ceviche as well as sandwiches and wraps are also available poolside.
