Fence guy gave us a great new fence this summer….but absolutely shredded my spring grass seed planting. Holes were expected….but two or three pallets left all over the grass all month was not…
Fast forward to September 27… SE Pennsylvania, I was unhappy with the Jonathan Green Black Beauty from the spring….so I sprung for some United Seed after a lot of reddit forums. Went with a Fescue Turf blend and combined it with a Perrenial Rye Blend, as well as a starter seed fert. Everything Germinated within 7 days, and the PR Germinated on day 4. Great Cultivars from United Seed.
Loving the results…..now how do I keep it like that ?!

I should add … Before the seeding, I used Drive XLR 8 and Triclopyr with MSO….waited 3 weeks … Pulled weeds and de-thatched…. Then laid some Peat with the seed and seed fert.
Mow it, fert it, water it, preemergents.
Great looking lawn man! You really nailed it on the second attempt!
Keep it watered this Fall, and use a fertilizer to help it thrive before going dormant in a few weeks, and once dormant you can let it be until Spring. It looks awesome now.
Mow it until it hibernates then mow it short, fertilize and apply pre emergent, give lots of love in the spring
How does combining tall fescue with p rye work? Can I do this in Charlotte?
Looks phenomenal! Mow high!
I’m outside Philly too. Can you come over and teach me your ways
Great job. Adding that my experience with Jonathan Green Black Beauty was also sub-par. The seed I purchased from Twin City Seed sprouted sooner and more vigorously.
Mow often. And look up nitrogen blitz. My grass bounce back supper strong in spring when I did the blitz last fall. Checkout local feed store since they might carry ammonium sulfate ( 20 -0 -0) you gonna have to mow a lot more. If you unsure just find some 10-10-10 fert since phosphate good for root growth. Good luck!
Push it with a starter and spoon feed weekly with Milorganite. Mow as often as possible.
