I have had this planned for over six years. It started at barely 6 inches tall with only two leaves. It has had over 10 leaves at some point, but then loses its leaves and still grows so it’s quite bald. I would like to chop it in half to try to make it fuller. Can I do that without killing it? Thank you

Looks like that poor thing desperately needs light.

Do it! It will love it. You can also chop up the stem and plant it under the soil horizontally. As long as there’s a node (each of the white knuckles) it’ll be good and pop up new leaves, although I’d keep 2-3 per chopped section. The top you can just plant back in the soil. But I agree with the other commenter that your dumb cane would benefit from more light (and possibly fertilizer)
