An Edinburgh woman was gobsmacked to encounter an animal in her back garden for the first time in 11 years.
The resident stumbled upon a pair of critters while looking out her window, prompting her to exclaim in surprise.
She encountered two roe deer around 4.30pm on Friday, October 3 and quickly whipped out her phone to capture the moment.
This is the first time she has come across the animals while living at the Oxgangs property.
Footage shows two young deer munching on leaves in the garden. They wander the property for a few moments before dashing away into a neighbouring field.
The resident told Edinburgh Live: “I shouted ‘OMG’ and my husband thought I hurt myself!
“I’ve been here for over 11 years and never seen them in the garden.
“There is a wooded area behind the garden but not many places for them to hide so I don’t know where they came from. They caught my eye and I thought it was a fox at first.”
An expert from NatureScot, an organisation that advises the Scottish government on conservation, said: “Roe deer tend to prefer woodlands or farmland, but they are increasingly found in urban and suburban areas.
“They like areas with woodland or scrub nearby where they can shelter, feed and even have their young.
“Roe deer are often living quite close to people in towns and cities, and can be seen on golf courses, in gardens, on roadsides and in parks, particularly around dawn and dusk.”
