(ABC 6 News) — It’s a special invitation for those who are lucky enough to be gifted with a green thumb called the Rochester Garden Grant Program, and it provides money to support creating pollinator habitats and rain gardens.

It helps the environment in many ways, including reducing runoff to protect local waterways and lessening flooding during a downpour.

“What I loved is that it created better relationships with the neighbor, with the neighborhood, and with the city, and it’s beautiful and so anything that’s out in nature and it’s beautiful, and I’ve had a part of, thats my happy place,” said gardener Deann Spencer.

The grant is now open for Rochester residents, community organizations, and schools.

There are other resources available too including design templates, plant lists, and how-to guides.

You can even ask for guidance from Extension Master Gardener volunteers.
