Chevallum locals will be accustomed to the dazzling display of Christmas lights each year at 347 Chevallum Road, and this year, the property will be illuminated for two nights only, in honour of the Buderim Garden Festival.
“Our garden is number 6 in the Buderim Garden Festival this year and we thought it would be fun to do something a little different and special,” say property owners, Paul and Carmen West.
Since 2014, Paul has become something of an outdoor lighting specialist since he and his family first decorated their property for Christmas.
“I started small with about 12,000 lights,” Paul said. “Back then, a few people came to look at it, and it has really just gone from there.”
Paul’s drive through Christmas display has grown to include more than 250,000 lights, and last year it attracted around 30,000 visitors driving through.
Over the years, Paul has collected decorative items that did not fit the Christmas theme.
“I have all kinds of floral themed light decorations and I am going to put them to use for the first time during the Buderim Garden Festival,” Paul said.
“The display will be around 50,000 lights and will include flat panel and 3D flowers, and our conifers will be lit up as well.”
The garden will be open for drive through viewing from 6pm – 9pm on the 17th and 18th of October. Entry is by Buderim Garden Festival Ticket or gold coin donation, with donations going to charity.
“This is something a bit different for us, and we hope that it spreads a little enjoyment.”
