Wolverhampton beach revamp to brighten children’s hospital stays

A “drab” children’s hospital garden has undergone a major makeover with a seaside theme following a fundraising appeal.

Children and their families visiting New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton can now experience an outdoor cinema screen and new play area with colourful murals.

Fundraising by the parent of a patient began in 2024, with a company specialising in industrial, commercial and educational refurbishments doing the work for free, the NHS trust running the hospital said.

“The transformation is incredible,” said senior matron Kirsty Lewis.
