Pumpkin Day at the Rose Farm

Celebrate the beauty of autumn at Cabrillo Cottage Farms’ Pumpkin Day from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, at 4461 Porter Gulch Road. Guests can take part in hands-on activities like cutting open pumpkins and roasting the seeds right on the farm, painting and decorating pumpkins with fun fall designs and enjoying story time in the pumpkin patch surrounded by colorful blooms and autumn magic.

Bring your family, creativity and love for fall to this joyful seasonal event at the organic rose farm. Admission is $5 per person; children age 2 and under are free. No pets, please.

Rise with the gardeners for early garden exchange

Stop by the early morning garden exchange from 8-9 a.m. Oct. 25, held at the Santa Cruz Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Ave. Please park in the northern rows of the parking lot away from the building. Gardeners are welcome to bring seeds, bulbs, succulents, houseplants, veggies, fresh flowers, informational material or any garden-related items to trade within the garden community.

The Santa Cruz Garden Exchange is a free event where local residents bring extra garden-related items to give away. No money is exchanged, and participants are not required to bring anything to take part. However, attendees are expected to take home any items they bring that are not given away.

Evening exchanges are on hold until next spring. Early morning exchanges take place the fourth Saturday of every month from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Live Oak Grange. For information, email santacruzgardenexchange@gmail.com.

London Nelson Harvest Festival senior trip

On Saturday, seniors from the London Nelson Community Center will enjoy a festive autumn outing to Ardenwood Historic Farm’s annual Harvest Festival at 34600 Ardenwood Blvd., Fremont. Take a step into the past with activities like corn picking, cider pressing and square dancing while enjoying old time country fun with festive music, a pumpkin patch, narrow-gauge train rides, historic crafts and tours of the Victorian era Patterson farmhouse and formal gardens. Please bring a bag if you plan to pick out a pumpkin or take home some of your harvested corn. Tickets range from $60-$78. Transportation and admission to the festival are included.

WATSONVILLE
Watsonville Wetlands Watch to host annual native plant sale

Watsonville Wetlands Watch will host their Annual Fall Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18, at the Patrick J. Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center in Pajaro Valley High School, 500 Harkins Slough Road. The sale will feature native and drought-tolerant plants, grown by interns, volunteers and staff, that attract birds, bees and butterflies and help save water. Hundreds of plants spanning dozens of species will be available for purchase.

Watsonville Wetlands Watch staff and the UC Master Gardeners of Monterey Bay will be at the event to answer gardening questions. Guests will be able to tour an on-site native plant demonstration garden at the Resource Center. Proceeds go towards supporting local wetlands restoration and education. Yoga on the farm

Achieve a state of deep calm and inner peace with Guided by Yoga with Robin at the Cosentino Family Farm, 4977 Carter Ave., Nov. 8 from 9-10 a.m. All you need is a yoga mat and your best down dog. Robin is a devoted student of yoga and mindfulness, teaching at Village Yoga, Trout Farm and private sessions at Seabright Beach. Her teaching style is sincere, intuitive and lighthearted. Cost is $30 per person. All levels are welcome. Ages 15 and older, please.

Therapeutic gardening at Common Roots Farm

Explore your zen with the Common Roots Farm Gardening Club 10:45-11:45 a.m. every Thursday at 301 Golf Club Drive. Get your hands dirty, your heart happy and your mind clear. Gardening is therapeutic. Show up, sign in and help out.

UCSC Farm Harvest Festival slated for mid October

Join the UCSC Farm for this year’s Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at 94 Ranch View Road. Connect with community on the campus farm with live music, pumpkin decorating, hands-on workshops, tractor tours, face painting and an annual apple pie baking contest. Free entry for current students of UCSC, Hartnell and Cabrillo colleges, Friends of the UCSC Farm and Garden members and children under 12. Admission is $5 for the general public. Please beware not to harvest produce from the farm. There will be a produce stand for purchases.
