The outdoor space at Jersey’s only residential facility for adults with disabilities has been transformed into a fully-accessible garden thanks to a three-year fundraising campaign.

The upgraded garden and outdoor area at Jersey Cheshire Home officially opened this week.

Key features include shaded seating areas with new furniture, a pergola with heating and lighting for year-round use, and raised planters designed to encourage residents to take part in gardening and outdoor hobbies.

The new outdoor facility is the result of a three-year fundraising campaign that began with charity treks and the 2024 Summer Ball.

Jersey Cheshire Home CEO Donna Abel said: “I want to thank every single resident, family member, and colleague for their patience over the last few weeks.

“We really hope your patience over these last few weeks will be worthwhile when you see what we have created.”

The opening was attended by Governor of Jersey, His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Kyd CBE, who is also a patron of the charity.

He said: “This is a charity that I am particularly proud of. They started with 21 rooms and it has been a steady evolution.

“This is what makes Jersey super special. This new garden will not only benefit residents, but family members who come to visit.”
